Institutional investors’ private equity programs consist of predominately fund commitments complemented by opportunistic transaction types such
as secondaries and co-investments. Within each of these transaction types, different investment strategies can be followed with buyouts being the most well-known.

Over the years, many other smaller yet sufficiently large strategies have been established. In this work, BlackRock Private Equity Partners analyze the five main strategies in private equity, and compare each strategy on a standalone basis, focusing on characteristics such as risk-reward, cash flow profile, value creation and diversification.
